SUMMARY:Civic Leadership & The Power of Getting Involved
DESCRIPTION:HYPE dives right into the topic of leadership to kick off the new year! You’ll have access to three events over the course of three months with the overarching theme of leadership as it relates to the community\, your career and company\, and politics. \n  \nThese three workshops will take you on a series of discovery by understanding intrinsic motivation to serve your community\, learning how to lead in a corporate environment and getting a glimpse into local political leadership. \n  \n                                    Leadership Series Events:\n\nCivic Leadership\nCorporate Leadership\nPolitical Leadership\n\n  \nFor this first event\, we’ll be hearing from Vanessa Diamond\, Senior Vice President of Civic Innovations at Community Foundation for a greater Richmond. Vanessa works with a coalition of community organizers\, business leaders\, institutions of higher education and government entities to help create a better ecosystem for civic engagement initiatives across our region. \n  \nVanessa will take us on a journey from understanding what your intrinsic passions are to figuring out how those align with community resources and opportunities for giving. You’ll learn about different ways to give with your time\, money and talent and gain insight into how to get the most out of volunteering from a networking and professional perspective. We’ve invited several local non-profit organizations that have boards for YPs to serve on\, and you’ll have an opportunity after Vanessa presents to learn more about those organizations. \n  \nWe’ll also have a special guest (and former HYPE speaker!)\, Becky Crump\, joining us to speak briefly about a new RVA initiative\, The Giving Wall.

SUMMARY:CreativeMornings RVA: Surreal - Marcel Ames
DESCRIPTION:Meet Marcel Ames : Designer\, Founder\, Dreamer. \n \nBorn and raised in Richmond\, Marcel attended Richmond Public Schools\, including the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. \nMarcel grew up with an eye for detail and fascination for tailored clothing\, worn by his father and grandfather. Acting was his first passion and he was trained in theater for over a decade. To this day he is an actor working part time in television\, film\, and commercials. \nHe’s worn many hats including working in a renowned haberdashery. It was there he was able to hone in on his own personal sense of style. \nUpon returning to Richmond\, Marcel worked several years alongside his father as a mental health support counselor\, including serving the Intellectually disabled population in the area. Intent on continuing to serve the community\, he joined the ranks of the Richmond Police Department. \nDuring the final stint of the academy\, he suffered a concussion and was no longer able to serve. After an unfortunate string of events\, original concepts and sketches that started as a therapeutic means of expression\, evolved into the current collection you see today. \nVia his brand X of Pentacles\, Marcel wishes to offers the world something that embodies craftsmanship\, respects tradition\, and serves as a tool to express your own individual narrative. \nMarcel’s main hobby has become his profession\, but he also enjoys cooking\, music\, film\, and currently serves as a Junior VACA Board Member for Vis-Arts here in Richmond.

Community outreach in making through service projects\, school partnerships\, etc.? THERE WILL BE SNACKS AND COFFEE. \nTeresa has offered her classroom as our meeting spot. Hope to see you there.

SUMMARY:November Past President's Luncheon: Your Organization’s DNA - What’s Diversity Got To Do With It?
DESCRIPTION:About the Program\nDiversity and Inclusion (D&I) are not only buzzwords in the public relations industry\, but they are critical business strategies that can help your organization excel if they are part of the DNA of your brand. Join us as we welcome Rochelle Ford\, Ph.D.\, APR\, dean of Elon University’s School of Communications\, for an interactive session that will help communicators understand why D&I cannot solely be an HR function\, but should be part of an integrated strategy across all functional units\, including communication. Participants will be able to identify what diversity should mean beyond race and ethnicity\, and what strategies will help your organization to achieve an inclusive environment and be able to retain brand equity in the marketplace. \nAbout the Speaker\nRochelle Ford\, Ph.D.\, APR\, is a leading researcher and writer on current issues in diversity in communications. Prior to taking over as dean of Elon University’s School of Communications this summer\, Dr. Ford was a tenured professor and chair in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She also spent 16 years at Howard University as a professor in the School of Communications. Dr. Ford has received numerous accolades\, including PRSA National Capital Chapter’s Diversity Champion Award and PRSA National’s Parke Gibson Multiculturalism Award. Earlier this month\, PR Week elected Dr. Ford among six “industry legends” in its annual Hall of Fame for her outstanding contributions to the communications industry. In addition to serving on the boards of the PRSA Foundation\, PRSA National and the American Advertising Federation’s Mosaic Center\, she co-chairs the Arthur W. Page Society’s diversity and inclusion committee.\nDr. Ford earned a bachelor’s degree from Howard University\, a master’s degree from University of Maryland at College Park\, and her doctorate from Southern Illinois at Carbondale. \nMenu\nChicken Marsala\, chef’s choice of sides and veggies with warm rolls and red velvet cake for dessert. A choice of salad\, with or without meat\, is also available. Make your selection when registering\, and be sure to pick up your salad ticket upon checking in for the luncheon if you choose that option. \nRSVP Policy\nAll RSVPs for lunch meetings must be made by 5 p.m. on MONDAY of the week of a meeting. After that time\, members and guests will need to call Sara Hunt at (804) 994-1120 to see if space is still available or to be put on a waiting list if needed. Please RSVP early in order to ensure that you are included in the headcount for lunch! If you register as a guest and later determine that you cannot attend\, please contact Sara Hunt\, chapter administrator\, at admin@prsarichmond.org. You must cancel prior to three business days in advance of the meeting to be eligible for a refund. If you cancel after that deadline\, you will still be responsible for the lunch payment and will be billed if you didn’t already pay online. No-shows will be billed for the lunch.

SUMMARY:Restart with Cabell Harris
DESCRIPTION:MEET OUR RESTART SPEAKER: CABELL HARRIS \nCabell Harris is the Creative Director and founder of WORK Labs and WORK and Friends. His career began in Richmond Virginia just after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University. Fortunately\, he was at the right place at the right time. Richmond was getting National attention as being one of the few creative hot spots outside New York. From there he continued building his portfolio and reputation by working for well-respected companies in Boston\, New York\, and Los Angeles. \nIn 1993 he founded WORK Inc.\, an agency for agencies\, in Las Angeles\, CA. In filling this unique niche\, few individuals have worked for more agencies or brands. Along with running WORK\, he has created books\, built APPs\, taken his own brands and products to market\, and taught at the VCU Brandcenter\, the number one ad school in the country\, for over 10 years. Today Work has evolved from WORK Inc to WORK Labs\, and currently\, WORK & FRIENDS\, a more collaborative arm of the agency. \nCabell has had the good fortune of having been recognized multiple times in every major industry award show including Cannes\, the Clios\, the One Show\, New York Addys\, Art Directors Club\, Graphis\, Effie\, Athena\, Andy\, British Design & Art Direction\, and Communication Arts\, and received over 10 Best of Shows for the local Richmond Addy’s\, as well as the honor to be declared one of the top creatives in the country in various publications. \nHe will tell you there’s a lot of things he’s admittedly not very good at but he’s pretty good at branding. But don’t take his word for it. Andy Spade\, cofounder of Kate Spade once said\, “Cabell has one of those minds that combines a military strategist with a sense of humor\, A.D.D. child with business acumen\, and a mad professor with taste and a sense of composition. He’s a wonderful\, bright creative solver with more going on in his own head than most of the entire advertising industry today.” \n\n\nLocal partners\n\n\nAt Capital One\, we believe that innovation is powered by perspective and that teamwork and respect for each other lead to superior results. We elevate each other and obsess about doing the right thing. Our associates serve with humility and a deep respect for their responsibility in helping our customers achieve their goals and realize their dreams. Together\, we are on a quest to change banking for good. \n\n\n\n\nMarketing no longer happens in silos. In our new digital reality we need to think about the total customer experience and wrap ourselves around the entire customer lifecycle. ICF Olson is a customer experience agency purpose-built to help you through this digital transformation. \n\n\n\n\nJust as we did when our company was founded in 1970\, we continue to call ourselves “printers” – and so do our customers. Makes sense. Offset\, digital\, wide-format\, and letterpress printing are today the core technologies of Worth Higgins & Associates. UV ink and coating\, foil stamping\, embossing and die cutting are tools of the printing process that we handle extraordinarily well in helping our clients achieve their creative goals and take their ideas beyond their imaginations. \n\n\n\n\nIdeaWeavers Helps Businesses Become More Effective. We started IdeaWeavers to solve the expense and long implementation times associated with most enterprise-class systems. We are focused on quickly understanding your needs and delivering a system for you. \n\n\n\n\nThe strength of Fahrenheit IT lies in our ability to provide high quality candidates and deliver customized staffing solutions designed to improve productivity and deliver results. \n\n\n\n\nAdditional details\nNew Around Here? CreativeMornings/Richmond gives our city’s most amazing people a space to gather each month to get inspired\, support each other\, forge relationships and collaborate. \nWe’re committed to celebrating our city’s creativity on a global scale. Whether you are a maker\, mover and shaker\, or just need a little inspirational boost – this is a place for you because we are firm believers that #RichmondIsCreative. \nThanks to the support of our beautiful venues and partners\, our events are free of charge – you just have to register ahead of time to reserve your spot. \nHere’s how: \n\n1. Create a profile at creativemornings.com.\n2. Come back to this page on Monday\, November !2th at 10 am.\n3. Hit Register.\n4. High five someone because it was that simple.\n5. Repeat step 4 with us on November 16th.
