LOS TROMPOS at
Short Pump Town Center is excited to announce the arrival of the Los Trompos art installation on June 12th. This interactive exhibit was created by Mexican designers, Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena, and features eight different colorful spinning tops that invite visitors to play and engage with the art. Los Trompos, which means "spinning tops" in Spanish, is a traveling exhibit that has been displayed around the world, including Mexico, France, and New York. The exhibit is suitable for all ages and is sure to be a hit with families and art lovers alike.
Los Trompos will be at Short Pump Town Center until July 12th and is free to attend (no ticket required). We encourage visitors to take the tops for a spin, sit back and relax or pose for the perfect photo op.

Why did Short Pump Decide to Bring Los Trompos?

The arrival of Los Trompos reflects a continued effort to create welcoming spaces wherefamilies, artists, businesses, and community members can come together. Through this partnership, the VAHCC and Short Pump Town Center aim to celebrate culture in a way that is accessible, engaging, and memorable for the entire community.
“Los Trompos” (“Spinning Tops” in Spanish) draws its inspiration from a toy that has been popular with children around the world since the dawn of time. This large-scale, interactive artistic installation engages visitors in a way that is both meaningful and playful.
Los Trompos features a set of larger-than-life, three-dimensional spinning tops in a variety of colors and shapes. The colorful surfaces of each top are created in part by fabric woven in a traditional Mexican style. The fabric is stretched over the modules to seat several people at once.

RICHMOND, VA. - The Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (VAHCC), in partnership with Short Pump Town Center, is proud to celebrate the arrival of Los Trompos, a vibrant, larger- than-life interactive art installation coming to Short Pump Town Center for a limited-time, month-long experience. As a proud marketing partner for this exciting cultural experience, the VAHCC is helping share the story behind Los Trompos and invite the broader Richmond community to experience an installation that celebrates art, culture, creativity, and connection. The community is invited to attend the official Launch Event for Los Trompos on Saturday, June 13, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Short Pump Town Center. The free, family-friendly celebration will include complimentary crafts, entertainment, food, and activities designed for guests of all ages.
Los Trompos, which translates to “The Spinning Tops,” is inspired by the traditional children’s toy and brings art to life through colorful woven sculptures that invite guests to spin, play, relax, and connect. The installation celebrates creativity, movement, and community while highlighting the cultural inspiration behind the artwork.
