Kristina Karlsson, the woman behind the inspiring global success story, kikki.K, shares personal insights from her amazing journey, from humble beginnings on a small farm in Sweden to the 3am light bulb moment that led her to chase and achieve dreams that are now inspiring a worldwide community of dreamers.
Filled with simple and practical magic â and inspiring stories and wisdom from people who’ve dared to dream big â this book will show you how to harness the power of dreaming to transform your life in small, simple steps.
âThe job is what you do when you are told what to do. The job is showing up at the factory, following instructions, meeting spec, and being managed.
Someone can always do your job a little better or faster or cheaper than you can.
The job might be difficult, it might require skill, but it’s a job.
Your art is what you do when no one can tell you exactly how to do it. Your art is the act of taking personal responsibility, challenging the status quo, and changing people.
I call the process of doing your art ‘the work.’ It’s possible to have a job and do the work, too. In fact, that’s how you become a linchpin.
The job is not the work.â
âwhat we choose to focus on and what we choose to ignoreâplays in defining the quality of our life.â
“If you see your creative work as a chore, an obligation, or solely as an item to cross off your to-do list, the work will feel that way to you and anybody who interacts with it. On the other hand, if you see your work as a gift, a privilege, an opportunity to share the truth of whatâs in your heart with the world, thatâs the experience youâll have with it. Same work, different perspectives.
The creative processânot the resultâis the source of our happiness. We feel the joy of being so immersed and engaged in what weâre doing that we lose track of time. We experience moments of creative daring, beautiful magic, and the unexpected surprises that show up along the way. Fortunately, our commitment to and belief in the process is entirely in our control. We can decide to show up, sit down, and create. If we listen to the process of creativity and stay attentive, it can be our gateway to meaning.”
âThe reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.â – George Bernard Shaw
The least favorite students were the non-conformists who made up their own rules. Teachers tend to discriminate against highly creative students, labeling them as troublemakers.
âGenerosity is, by definition, disinterested.â
“It’s all really very simple. You don’t have to choose between being kind to yourself and others. It’s one and the same.”
“Try this experiment. Start with an ordinary situation such as riding in a taxi, buying paper at a stationary shop, or sitting in the train. Then try exchanging a few words with the taxi driver, making eye contact with the salesperson, striking up a conversation with someone on the train. For some of us, that happens spontaneously; others have to do it deliberately. Be fully present in this brief contact, and expect the other to be so as well. Suddenly a change occurs: Something becomes unblocked and energy circulates. It might not be an encounter of two souls. But it surely will be an exchange of vital energy between two people.”
âLike a kid in a candy storeâ is one of the most iconic images of joy in our culture, expressing the wild, almost delirious pleasure we take in being let loose in a bountiful world. When I first started hearing about the places that give people joy, I realized that many of them evoke this giddy feeling of abundance: carnivals and circuses, dollar stores and flea markets, and giant old hotels like the Grand Budapest of director Wes Andersonâs imagining. The same feeling also exists on a smaller scale. An ice-cream cone covered in rainbow sprinkles is like a candy store held in your hand. A shower of confetti, a multicolored quilt, a simple game of pick-up sticks, have this irresistible allure.
Even the language of joy is rife with excess. We say weâre overjoyed or that weâre brimming with happiness. We say, âMy cup runneth over.â And this is very much how it feels to be in a moment of joy, when our delight is so abundant it feels like it canât be contained.â
Busy is a decision. â Debbie Millman

In appreciation for the healthcare workers, police officers, firefighters and paramedics who are committed to our health and safety, McDonaldâs will offer free Thank You Meals*, between Wednesday, April 22 and Tuesday, May 5, as a token of appreciation for their selfless service.
While the majority of America is staying home, McDonaldâs has remained open, with our franchisees and hardworking restaurant employees serving hot meals to communities who need quick and affordable options, especially those on the frontlines such as healthcare workers and first responders. The company is grateful for the ongoing dedication and commitment of McDonaldâs employees who enable McDonaldâs to stay open to serve our communities during these challenging times.
Each Thank You Meal will be available at no charge via drive thru or carry out at participating McDonaldâs restaurants nationwide through May 5. The Thank You Meal, available during breakfast, lunch or dinner, will feature a choice of sandwiches, drinks, and a side featuring small World Famous Fries or a Hash Brown, along with a note of appreciation. It will be served in McDonaldâs iconic Happy Meal box, in the hopes of bringing a smile along with delicious food.
Day or night, these frontline heroes can simply show their work badge to receive one of the below Thank You Meal options:
Breakfast
- A choice of an Egg McMuffinÂŽ, Chicken McGriddlesÂŽ or a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit. All options come with any size soft drink, tea or hot coffee and a Hash Brown.
Lunch and Dinner
- A choice of a Double Cheeseburger, 6-Piece Chicken McNuggetsÂŽ or a Filet-O-FishÂŽ will be offered. All options come with any size soft drink, tea or hot coffee and small fries.
âAs local business owners, we know that our communities need us now more than ever and weâre committed to continuing to serve them,â said owner/operator Bill Barnes . âWe are proud to be able support our neighbors who are on the frontlines as first responders and healthcare workers with Thank You Meals.â
During past times of national crisis, McDonaldâs has helped and served communities in need, from donating funds to disaster relief efforts to providing food for those impacted by natural disasters. McDonaldâs commitment to feeding the nationâs healthcare workers and first responders throughout the current pandemic is a continuation of that dedication. Additionally, McDonaldâs local franchises have also been working throughout this crisis to support the thousands of communities their restaurants call home. For example in INSERT LOCAL MARKET, Owner/Operators have INSERT EXAMPLE OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT.
Serving these brave men and women would not be possible without McDonaldâs dedicated and unwavering restaurant employees, who are also doing their part to help during this time. McDonaldâs employees are the heart of the business, and their health and safety has been, and will continue to be, the companyâs top priority. McDonaldâs has implemented nearly 50 new safety measures to ensure the well-being of its employees, and continuing to explore additional safety steps in accordance with guidance issued by local and national health authorities including the CDC.
Nearly all McDonaldâs U.S. restaurants remain open and are offering convenient and contactless ways for customers to enjoy McDonaldâs favorites through drive thru, carry out, McDelivery, and mobile order & pay with our app.
*Thank You Meals offered at participating US McDonaldâs 4/22/20 through 5/5/20. Valid ID required. Limit one per person per day. Menu options may vary by restaurant. Visit McDonalds.com for more details.
