PRSA Richmond-April Luncheon: It’s a Hit! Tips and Strategies for Landing Your Story on National TV

In a moderated discussion, Jo Mathisen, former senior producer of The Today Show, will share her story on her professional career – her career path that ultimately landed her three Emmys, a Gracie award and a top spot as a producer of a national daily morning TV show. She will also share tips for PR professionals in working with producers and news journalists at national broadcast media outlets.
In advance of this program, PRSA Richmond will solicit questions from chapter members on what they want to know.

Joanne LaMarca Mathisen is a former producer of TODAY, America’s leading morning news program. She began her career as an NBC Page and worked her way up to Senior Producer. She remained at TODAY for the better part of 30 years where she covered everything from the Olympics to the Oscars. Jo also covered entertainment for a magazine show at CBS, was a field producer for a morning show owned by the Wall Street Journal and then went to work at CNBC where she met her husband.
The last 8 years of her NBC career, Jo laughed along with Kathie Lee and Hoda on the 4th hour of TODAY also known as The Happy Hour.
Jo officially “retired” last summer from “the most incredible job” as Kathie Lee and Hoda’s Senior Producer for the “most important job”: raising her son, Mack and spending more time with her family. They currently reside in Montclair, New Jersey. And because she just can’t stay away, Jo along with two of her former co-workers, can he heard on SiriusXM 108 hosting The Happy Hour radio show. She also created blog called Old Moms Rock, because after all, she’s an old mom.
She is a graduate of State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta.
