Professional Development Session: Local Richmond Media Panel Discussion and Q&A

Curious about what happens during a morning meeting at the local TV station? Interested in getting an Op-Ed placed, or landing more coverage for your organization or clients? Grab your summer interns and join us on Wednesday, June 5, for a professional development session featuring a panel of Richmond media contacts. They’ll provide industry insights and answer your burning questions, so you can refine your strategy and get smart with your media outreach.

The workshop is open to PRSA members, non-members and students, and will be held at Dominion Payroll’s Community Room in Scott’s Addition. A networking session with light refreshments will kick off the session from 7:30 to 8 a.m., and the panel discussion and Q&A will be held from 8 to 10 a.m.

Meet the Media Panel

Jonathan Spiers, Assistant Editor, Richmond BizSense
Jonathan Spiers joined BizSense, the River City’s premier source of business news and information, in early 2015 after a decade of reporting in Wilmington, N.C. Prior to that he was with the Henrico County Leader. The Virginia Tech graduate covers residential real estate, advertising/marketing, government and other news.

Robert Hughes, Assignment Manager, WTVR CBS-6
Robert Hughes has been with WTVR CBS-6, the South’s first television station, for more than 18 years. As the assignment manager, Robert works with reporters, photojournalists and producers to make sure they have all the information they need to bring Central Virginians the best news coverage around.

Pamela Stallsmith, Opinion Editor, Richmond Times-Dispatch
Pamela Stallsmith is the first female opinions editor at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Richmond’s source for local news, events, sports, business news, food & dining, entertainment, commentary and classifieds. She previously served as the director of communications for the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to her time at VCU, Pamela was part of the Times-Dispatch’s news team from 1988 until 2007, covering state news, the governor, the General Assembly and politics across Virginia.

Registration

Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration costs are $25 for PRSA members, $35 for non-members and $10 for students. Advance payment with a credit card is highly preferred, but checks and cash will be accepted at the door. If you register, please plan to attend – refunds are not available unless three business days notice is given, and no-shows will be invoiced.

Parking

Parking is available in a lot behind the Dominion Payroll building (except for the red, numbered spaces marked “reserved”). Otherwise, street parking is available.
